Ultimate Samsung Galaxy S8 blows every smartphone out the water - but good luck finding one

Samsung is releasing a super-powerful version of its Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus flagships that makes the regular smartphones look like a children's toy.

The special editions of the Galaxy S8 and larger S8 Plus are said to cost over $1,000 (£820, €920) and will each come with a whopping 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The phones are bundled with the $149 (£120) Galaxy S8 DeX dock, which connects the phone to a monitor, keyboard and mouse, turning it into a lightweight desktop PC.

This puts the supercharged Samsung handsets on par with the iPhone 8, which is estimated to come with a price tag of over $1,000 (£800, €940) if purchased SIM-free.

However, there's a catch: even if you could afford them, you'll only be able to get your hands on them if you live in South Korea and China, which will received the souped-up Galaxy S8 duo exclusively. ET News (via The Verge) reports that Samsung is targeting domestic markets specifically because of the popularity of high-capacity smartphones in the region.

Handsets from Chinese manufacturers bearing 6GB RAM and 128GB storage include the Huawei P10 Plus, OnePlus 3T and Xiaomi Mi Note 2.

The standard Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, set to arrive on 28 April, feature 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. However, users can expand the capacity through the handset's microSD port, which supports cards up to 256GB in capacity.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 can be pre-ordered in the UK for £689 SIM-free, whereas the larger Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus costs £779. The only difference between the two handsets is the screen size, with the S8 offering a 5.8in screen and the S8 Plus offering 6.2in.

Both pack an edge-to-edge 'Infinity Display' offering a QHD resolution of 2960x1440.
