The United Nations' aid chief warned humanitarian aid is not reaching the people in Syria who are in desperate need.

During a briefing to the Security Council on Thursday (June 26), United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos said, "We are unable to get in to deliver much needed humanitarian assistance. Since my last briefing to the council, only 2,467 people, or one percent, of those living in besieged areas have received much needed food assistance. Mr. President, this level of obstruction is inhuman and goes against the basic commitment to human dignity and rights U.N. member states agreed to in Chapter I, Article I of the U.N. charter."
