Universal Music artists now available on Amazon's Prime Music streaming service

Amazon has announced subscribers to its streaming service Prime Music will now get access to Universal Music Group's roster of artists to listen to. The new catalogue of music will be available to UK and US users as part of their Amazon Prime membership. The list of artists is expansive and includes select albums from big names such as Katy Perry, Ariana Grande and Eminem.

This is a welcome addition to the music streaming service that currently has only one million streamable tracks, compared to over 30 million offered by Spotify.

Not having Universal Music onboard at launch back in June 2014 was a notable omission and it is understood the disagreement came down to money. Now this injection of artists will help flesh out the service, adding to its current list of most popular musicians.

"We are pleased to make a selection of our catalogue available on Prime Music," said Francis Keeling, Universal Music Group global head of digital business, in a press release.

"With Amazon's tremendous reach and consumer appeal, we are delighted to build on our relationship by making Universal Music's world-class artists available to Amazon Prime members."

Not only will Prime members get access to the new albums and tracks, they will also see programmed playlists from experts at Universal. The announcement comes as Amazon unveils an updated line-up of devices from a £50 Fire tablet to the 4K-ready Fire TV. All music can be accessed for no extra charge to Amazon Prime accounts on these Fire devices as well as on Apple and Android devices.
