Update OnePlus One to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop via ParanoidAndroid 5.0 unofficial ROM
Owners of OnePlus One are in for some great news, as the industrious ParanoidAndroid team has rolled out the best custom Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware for the flagship handset with ParanoidAndroid 5.0 Alpha 1 ROM.
As senior forum member and developer YoshiShaPow admits in his recent post on XDA, PA 5.0 Alpha 1 ROM comes in an unmodified kernel based on the original AOSPA source code on github, despite being an unofficial build in its Alpha testing stage.
According to the developer, OnePlus One users are required to flash the latest CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM (click to see the guide) before installing this ROM in order to ensure the base firmware compatibility with the device.
IBTimes UK reminds readers it will not be held liable for any damage to device during or after the Android 5.0.2 Lolliop firmware installation. Users are advised to proceed at their own risk.
Pre-requisites
- The instructions given in this guide are meant for the European variant of OnePlus One only. Verify device model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
- Ensure the phone has at least 80% battery charge to prevent unexpected device shutdown (due to battery drain) while installing the ROM.
- Back up data and settings using a recommended custom recovery tool, like ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP, as it creates a complete image of the existing phone setup. In Recovery, choose Backup and Restore and tap Backup.
- Verify correct USB drivers for the phone are installed on the computer (download OnePlus One USB drivers).
- Enable USB Debugging mode via Settings > Developer Options (if running Android 4.0 or above) or Settings > Applications > Development (if running Android 2.3 or earlier).
- Ensure that the device is rooted with CWM recovery installed and its bootloader is unlocked.
- Make sure that CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM is preinstalled on the device.
