Pornhub: US Bible Belt leads America in gay porn consumption, says survey
Same-sex marriage may not be legal in the South, but recent statistics from Pornhub - an pornographic website - have revealed that Southern states lead in the consumption of gay porn.
The report also revealed that, "the percentage of gay viewers for every single state in the South is higher than the average of the legal gay marriage states". Mississippi led in the South with 5.58% gay viewers, followed closely behind by Louisiana and Georgia, at 5.44% and 5.38% respectively
Among states where gay marriage is legal, Hawaii edged out New York for the most gay porn viewers, 5.38% to 5.37%. Conversely, among states where gay marriage is illegal, Alaska (2.58%), Idaho (2.83%), Montana (2.65%) and North Dakota (2.79%) have the lowest percentage of gay porn users.
A Pornhub spokesperson explained to BuzzFeed how the website's Insights blog came to find the porn-viewing habit data.
"We pulled terms and traffic to gay searches. We couldn't break down 'lesbian' because we don't track our users on a micro-granular level (i.e., gender, sexual orientation, etc.). So for example, lesbian searches can account for, like, 40% of a city's searches, but 80% of those searchers may likely be men," the spokesperson said. "So to answer, it's a rundown of gay porn from male users."
Pornhub's Insight blog regularly releases statistics regarding viewers porn habits, from age of viewers to the viewing habits of different nationalities.
