US election 2016: Martin O'Malley and Mike Huckabee suspend presidential campaigns
Former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee suspended their presidential campaigns following dismal results in the Iowa Caucuses. O'Malley, who had trouble gaining any traction in the Democratic race, won just 0.6% of the vote.
O'Malley told supporters in Des Moines: "Tonight I have to tell you that I am suspending this presidential bid. But I am not ending this fight because the fight you and I are engaged in is a tough fight. And I believe that the toughness of the fight is the way the hidden God has of telling us we're fighting for something worth saving,"
Republican Huckabee joked with supporters, at first thanking them for the "victory" in Iowa. "Oh that's right, it didn't happen. Well, folks, let me tell you – it didn't turn out like we wanted it tonight," he said. Huckabee won the Iowa caucus in 2008.
