US Open 2015: Federer takes on Wawrinka and Djokovic faces Cilic in the semifinal
Roger Federer has made it to the semi-final of the 2015 US Open after a straight sets victory over Richard Gasquet. He is joined by defending champion Marin Cilic, world number one Novak Djokovic and fellow-countryman Stanislas Wawrinka in the last four of the tournament.
The 34-year-old had no trouble sealing a berth in the semi-final after a comfortable win over Wimbledon semi-finalist Gasquet, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.Swiss compatriot Wawrinka had an easy victory over Kevin Anderson as the match ended in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.
Top seed Djokovic was pitted against Feliciano Lopez in the quarter-final. The Serbian was level at one-set all before bouncing back in the third set and sealing the match in the fourth via a tiebreaker.
Cilic kept his dream of retaining the US Open alive after a hard-fought victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a five-set thriller. After winning the first two sets, the Croatian lost the next two sets, forcing the match into a decider, which went the defending champions' favour as he won 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 6-4.
