US rapper Xzibit spends wedding night in a cell after drink driving arrest

Most newlyweds spend their wedding night in between the sheets consummating their union, but not rapper Xzibit.

The 40-year-old hip hop star ended his big day alone and inside a holding cell after being arrested for driving under the influence, TMZ reports.

Xzibit, whose real name is Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, was pulled over by police in Laguna Beach, California, just hours after saying "I do" to bride Krista Joiner.

The Pimp My Ride host, who had partied hard at his wedding reception held at the St Regis Monarch Beach, was subsequently taken into police custody after officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol.

"The officer contacted the driver and smelled alcohol. This started a driving under the influence investigation which ended with the arrest of [Xzibit]," Captain Jason Kravetz told the Daily Mail.

Earlier in the day, the couple, who have been dating for five years, exchanged vows in the presence of close family and friends. Xzibit's sons Tremayne - who is from a previous relationship - and Gatlyn formed part of the wedding party.

Joiner walked down the aisle in a strapless gown featuring a sweetheart neckline, a voluminous textured skirt and train while Xzibit looked dapper in classic black Louis Vuitton suit and bowtie. THe couple also sported matching his and hers diamond encrusted Rolex watches.

Following his release, the star attempted to put the drama behind him by paying tribute to his partner and family on social media.

"Yesterday was our wedding day. It was nothing short of amazing. We were surrounded by friends and family and had an outstanding ceremony. It was not tainted by negative energy and I made sure it stayed that way," he wrote alongside a snap him and his wife in a photobooth at the wedding.

"There was a time I thought I would NEVER get married."
