'Vikings' star Alexander Ludwig joins 'Arrow' lead Stephen Amell in wrestling drama 'Heels'
Alexander Ludwig and Stephen Amell play brothers and also rivals in "Heels."
Alexander Ludwig and Stephen Amell are set to headline the new Starz drama series titled "Heels." The two actors play brothers who are also rivals.
Ludwig and Amell play the Spade brothers Ace and Jack, respectively, whose family owns a wrestling promotion company in a close-knit Georgia community known as Duffy. They are at war over the legacy of their father, who has just died.
Ace is the good guy and on the ring. He is considered a beloved hero and a star. But outside, in the real world, he struggles with reconciling his "town idol status with his insecurities and demons." Character descriptions from Deadline for Ludwig's Ace calls him "brash, cocky and self-destructive." However, he can also be "charming and good looking that you can almost forgive him." Ace must learn to keep himself together if he wants to get out of Duffy and take his wrestling skills to the big time.
Meanwhile, not much is said about Amell's character except that he plays the bad guy in "Heels." The wrestling drama follows the stories of the members of the community, as they immerse themselves in the world of small-town professional wrestling.
Mike O' Malley ("Survivor's Remorse," "Shameless") is the showrunner and executive-producer of the eight-episode hour-long drama from a script written by Michael Waldron ("Community," "Loki").
"Heels" sounds like it involves plenty of action, which should not be a problem for the two actors given the physical demands of their current TV roles. Ludwig has had his fair share of action stunts in History's "Vikings," where he plays Bjorn Ironside, the son of Ragnar Lothbrok and Lagertha. The series is due to wrap up its sixth season soon.
Meanwhile, Amell is best known for his role as the DC character Green Arrow in The CW series "Arrow." The series is action-packed, to say the least, and playing the role of a vigilante hero requires intense physical workout, which the actor has been active with since joining the show. Amell even completed a full American Ninja Warrior course in 2017. Suffice to say, he is physically fit and capable to do his wrestling scenes in "Heels."
