Vimeo starts supporting picture-in-picture view and split screen for iOS 9
Vimeo has released an update for its iOS that brings picture-in-picture view and split screen functionality for iOS 9. The updated app is available for free download on Apple's App Store.
The updated Vimeo for iOS (version 5.6) uses picture-in-picture feature of iOS 9 to let you watch videos on its network when also using other installed apps on your iPad. The other apps could be Safari, Mail or even Apple Maps. Also, there is split screen support to let you resize Vimeo's screen to fit another app on the remaining space.
As both picture-in-picture view and split screen functionality are limited to iPad, these features will not be available on the iPhone. But if you have iOS 9 on your iPhone, the updated app brings full support for the latest iOS version that includes the ability to search Vimeo videos from Spotlight search.
Vimeo has also provided improved Chromecast integration to make casting on HDTV smoother. Besides, the app comes with some bug fixes to deliver an improved video-watching experience.
The updated Vimeo for iOS is 38.1MB in size and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on iOS 7.0 or above. Some of the newly added features are, however, specifically designed for devices running on at least iOS 9.
