The Voice UK: Boy George claims he 'slept with Prince' – shocking studio audience
It's always been a well-known running joke that the celebrity judges on UK talent show The Voice like to name-drop famous names from time-to-time. Former mentor Tom Jones used to do it the most, mentioning frequently that he's worked with big stars such as Ray Charles and Elvis Presley during his career. But show newcomer Boy George went one step further.
As his fellow judges, Paloma Faith, Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson and Will.i.am began discussing who in the music industry they've collaborated with, George randomly joked that while he might not have worked with Purple Rain singer Prince, he's slept with him, bringing the live filming to a halt while the audience composed themselves.
"I have duetted with some of the greatest soul singers in history including Luther Vandross and Smokey Robinson," the Karma Chameleon singer started to boast. To which Faith quickly responded: "Well, OK, if we're throwing big soul names out there I've performed with Prince."
Despite looking impressed, London-born singer/songwriter George wasn't taking that as a final winning answer however, and decided to top Faith by divulging some personal information, rather than professional. "Forget that, darling, I've slept with Prince," he retaliated, shocking the audience.
Speaking with The Sun, a source stated: "The crowd went absolutely wild because they thought they had just witnessed a massive celebrity exclusive. The other judges thought it was brilliant, particularly Will.i.am. He kept coming up to Boy George and high-fiving him, which just set the crowd off again.
"Production staff had to come up on stage and speak to them. After that, Boy George started backtracking saying he hadn't really slept with Prince and that in reality, he just had his poster on his wall. But as far as the crowd were concerned the cat was already out of the bag."
