West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Jim Munro said: "The body was discovered at 8.30pm following a call from a member of the public but we believe the man may have been dead for several hours.
"We've already spoken to many residents in Walsall Street but if anyone was in the area on Monday evening, and have not yet spoken to police, then I'd ask them to call me as soon as possible. It may be they saw or heard something suspicious, perhaps a disturbance or people leaving the scene, that could be important to the investigation."
