Washington: Man sparks security alert after flying drone near White House
A man has sparked a major security alert at the White House after flying a drone into the grounds of the building.
U.S. Park Police and U.S. Secret Service were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that a foot-long aircraft was flown near the White House.
The unidentified suspect was apprehended in Lafayette Square and has been detained, a spokesman for the air regulator confirmed.
The park on the north side of the White House is in lock down while the incident is being investigated, CNN reports.
In January, a government employee accidentally flew a drone into the grounds of the White House, sparking a major security alert.
