Wayward Pines episode 6 to air on 25 June: Actor says finale will give resolution, set the stage for season 2
After revealing the shocking truth about the town's mystery in episode 5, Wayward Pines will take a break and return with new episodes on 25 June, 2015.
The last episode of Wayward Pines revealed that the residents of the Idaho town are the remaining members of humanity and are living in the year 4028, more than 2000 years in the future. Most of these people were hand-picked and brought to the town in an attempt to save humanity and re-start civilisation.
Another twist that was unveiled was that the fence surrounding Wayward Pines is actually protecting the town from "aberrations" who are violent descendants of the human race.
Actress Carla Gugino, who plays Secret Service agent-turned-toy shop owner Kate, teased the finale and season 2 settings.
Gugino told Tvline: "Episode 10 will give you a significant amount of resolution while setting the stage for a possible future of what's going to happen in this town."
The actress went on to talk about her favourite episode in Fox's show.
Gugino said, "I really love Episode 9. I also really loved 3 and 4, which everyone just finished watching; those were both directed by Zal Batmanglij, who's super talented and is also the only person who directed two in a row. "
"There's something about those two that have almost a magic quality to me. But I like the trajectory of the show in general. To me, the show exists more like a long-form film than individual episodes. They're all interwoven, so it's almost hard for me to separate episodes out," she added.
Although the truth is out, the timeline twist left fans with a lot of questions. The most confusing one is that of Pope's timeline. How could Pope (Terence Howard) and Dr Jenkins/David Pilcher (Toby Jones) have turned up in 2014 if Wayward Pines is stuck in the future?
Pope and Pilcher both appeared outside of Wayward Pines. First, Pilcher was shown meeting Ethan Burke's (Matt Dillon) boss at the Secret Service back in 2014. Then, Pope showed up on the road to pull over Theresa (Shannyn Sossaman) and Ben (Charlie Tahan) and seemingly cause the accident that landed them in Wayward Pines.
Here is a video of the sheriff with Ethan's family in 2014.
If they are in living in the year 4028, how could Pope show up in 2014?
A Tvline report tries to explain the time paradox. The report stated, "In that scene, Pope's not in 4028. Yet. Everyone you've met existed in our time/'the past.' But then at some point, as detailed in the next episode (airing June 25), each Wayward Pines-bound person was put into 'hibernation' and eventually awoken in the (distant!) future."
Episode 6, titled Choices, is expected to answer this timeline paradox. Wayward Pines airs on Thursdays at 9pm EDT on Fox. Catch up on the first five episodes with a special recap video shared by Fox.
