Wenger Hails Danny Welbeck Signing and Confirms Injury Boost Ahead of Manchester City Clash
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed the signing of Danny Welbeck, assuring the forward he will be given the first team chances he desires.
The north London side completed the signing of the England international on transfer deadline day after paying Manchester United £16m to secure his services.
And the Gunners boss believes Welbeck now gives the club a fantastic option in attack as they prepare for their first real test of the season against the Premier League champions.
"Danny Welbeck is young and I feel he can improve his career here. He is quick and is a great finisher," Wenger said during a press conference ahead of the Manchester City clash on Saturday.
"It was quick (the deal) because it was the last day of the transfer window but I had no hesitation in doing it."
In recent days Welbeck has spoken of his high hopes of playing as a number nine rather than out wide at the Emirates and it would appear the 23-year-old will get that chance.
Wenger added: "When you analyse Welbeck's game, he has the qualities to play down the middle but he is very versatile."
Meanwhile, the Gunners boss says he expects Aaron Ramsey to be fit to play on Saturday despite an injury scare after the player turned his ankle during Wales' victory over Andorra on Tuesday.
"I'm relieved that Ramsey's injury is not serious because we had a nightmare with him last year. We assess Ramsey today - he has a little chance to be available for Saturday. He has a minor ankle problem."
Wenger also confirmed the trio of Mikel Arteta, Kieran Gibbs and Mesut Ozil are all in contention to play.
"Gibbs, Arteta and Ozil are fit and will be in the squad."
Arsenal host City after securing a draw in their last Premier Leauge match against Leicester City.
"We have to accept our schedule and deal with it. We dropped points against Leicester and we want to make up for it."
