What to expect in Star Wars Battlefront's Death Star expansion
Chewbacca and Bossk's abilities detailed, plus general tweaks heading to main game.
EA DICE has revealed details of its latest patch for Star Wars Battlefront as the highly-anticipated Death Star DLC launches for season pass holders. The notes also include new details about the expansion, including its new hero characters Chewbacca and Bossk.
The Death Star expansion includes five new maps "set around or on the Death Star" according to the patch notes, and a new game mode called Battle Station – as had previously been announced.
Battle Station is "a new three-phased mode in which Rebels attempt to destroy an Imperial Star Destroyer in order to clear space for a GR-75 and its brave Rebel boarding party," reads a description. "Then, these Rebels participating in an assault on the Death Star in hopes of rescuing R2-D2 before, finally, attempting to destroy the Death Star itself with the help of Luke Skywalker."
The aerial combat sections of the latest Star Wars Battlefront expansion are where players will be able to play as Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing fighter, and Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced. The former comes with shields, Proton Torpedoes and R2-D2, who is able to repair the ship. Vader's TIE fighter meanwhile has shields, a speed boost and a relentless assault which allows players to fire more rapidly without overheating their weapons.
Chewbacca and the bounty hunter Bossk are playable on the ground. Chewie's abilities allow him to double the number of bolts fired from his boltcaster, he has a roar that powers up both himself and nearby allies, a ground slam and a trait that increases the amount of bolts fired per rank.
Bossk meanwhile has micro grenades fired from his primary weapon, a thermal imaging overlay to the screen that makes it easy to see foes through smoke, a 'Toxic Escape' manoeuvre that sees Bossk throw down a poisonous Dioxis Grenade before leaping away and a trait that allows him to heal after successful kills.
The expansion also includes two new weapons, two new Star Cards and six new Hutt Contracts.
EA DICE also published the list of general changes coming to all Battlefront players. These are largely tweaks to gameplay and certain characters, graphical glitches and UI changes.
The Death Star expansion is the third of four expansions for Battlefront. The final expansion, based on upcoming film Rogue One, will launch in December.
