'What the hell was that?': Trump slurred during his Jerusalem speech and Twitter is freaking out
Twitter immediately erupted with fervent questions and was rife with speculation about the cause.
US President Donald Trump seemed to slur his words during his landmark speech on Jerusalem and the internet is freaking out. On Wednesday (6 December), Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announced plans to relocate the US embassy there — a decision that could spark fierce tensions in the region and hurt peace initiatives.
"My announcement today marks the beginning of a new approach to conflict between Israel and the Palestinians," Trump said during his speech in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House. "I have determined that it is time to officially recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. While previous presidents have made this a major campaign promise, they failed to deliver. Today, I am delivering.
"This is nothing more or less than a recognition of reality. It is also the right thing to do. It's something that has to be done."
Towards the last 30 seconds of his speech, however, people noticed that Trump's pronunciation of certain words seemed to slur.
"Let us rededicate ourselves to a path of mutual understanding and respect. Let us rethink old assumptions and open our hearts and minds to possible and possibilities," Trump said. "And finally, I ask the leaders of the region political and religious, Israeli and Palestinian, Jewish and Christian and Muslim to join us in the noble quest for lasting peace.
"Thank you. God bless you. God bless Israel. God bless the Palestinians and God bless the United States," he said closing his speech.
When questioned by reporters about Trump's garbled speech, White House spokesman Raj Shah said, "His throat was dry. There's nothing to it."
Still, reporters pressed on and questioned whether the slurred words were indicative of any health concerns, to which Shah replied, "I know what you're getting at. I'm saying there's nothing to it."
Twitter, on the other hand, immediately erupted with fervent questions and was rife with speculation about the cause of his slurred speech. Many twitter users came up with a myriad possibilities ranging from loose dentures to a possible mild stroke.
The denture speculation soon turned into the viral hashtag #DentureDonald to mercilessly troll the president. "There's definitely something wrong," one Twitter user wrote.
"Trump could barely articulate words by the end of his speech. Sad," journalist Aaron Rupar tweeted.
"Dementia, drug, alcohol, senility... which is it?!? @realDonaldTrump what's going on with you?!?!?" one Twitter user asked.
"He was trying to say it in Russian," one person joked.
"We all kept telling Trump to get a grip... never imaging it should be Poligrip. #DentureDonald", one person tweeted as another pointed out, "Even his own teeth are flipping on him."

Something definitely happened to Trump during the last section of his Jerusalem remarks. His speech is definitely slurred, especially on "United States" and he couldn't quite control his mouth. Looks stroke-ish, but could be, I dunno, dental? @aravosis

Trump just slurred his way through a speech so incoherent, debate rages if his dentures fell out, he was high on cocaine, or he had a minor stroke.

If anyone watched Trump's Jerusalem speech this afternoon, you likely noticed multiple speech slurs. He's either:

A) Nervous as hell about Mueller's Investigation
B) On some sort of Anti-anxiety Medication
C) Showing signs of Alzheimer's
D) ALL OF THE ABOVE.#Jerusalem
Itâs amazing that the media ignores the spectacle of POTUS slurring words in a speech, given the frenzy over the health of a rival who proved her stamina doing shuttle diplomacy around the world. I donât know how to make sense of it except as evidence of the sexism in politics. pic.twitter.com/JuQdPDhxzW

I noticed the same thing, looked like his tongue was swelling or something, or acting like he was on muscle relaxers. Look at the part where he's signing at the table, even weirder.

Benzodiazepam and similar anti-anxiety meds will do that.

He's freaking out, and being treated for it.

Everybody's talking about Trump's slurring of his speech, but let's look at how he signed that order today compared to previous orders. Something isn't right. pic.twitter.com/QpG4w97G2N
