The Tokyo-born designer Eiko Ishioka has won awards in every form of artistic endeavour and it is this versatility that is being celebrated by Google in its latest Doodle on what would have been her 79th birthday on Wednesday (12 July).
She entered the graphic design industry at a time when there were few women involved in the sector and became renowned for her early print ads.
Her surreal costumes were worn in Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 film Dracula, films by Tarsem Singh and she also helped design sets and costumes for Broadway's M. Butterfly.
She was also renowned for her advertising campaigns for companies such as Parco, Descente and she was also the director of costume design for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
She also won a Grammy Award for her design of the album by Miles Davis, Tutu.
Google Doodle showcases some her famous designs from Singh's 2006 movie The Fall, today's slideshow Doodle celebrates her revolutionary work.
