Why Matt Damon didn't spend Thanksgiving with childhood friend Ben Affleck
"It is not his fault he didn't spend Thanksgiving with me. It's my fault that I left. I was in another state," Damon revealed.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been best friends since childhood. In fact, they have known each other since Damon was just 10 years old.
While their bromance began when they were kids, their acting career took off only after writing and co-starring in 1997's Good Will Hunting, a film that won two Oscars for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Robin Williams – who passed away at the age of 63 in August, 2014.
Damon and Affleck's bromance has been well-documented in the media, with the two gushing about each other at every instance. And, as friends usually do, Damon and Affleck also regularly play pranks on each other.
Last year, when they were playfully ribbing each other over who was the best friend to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Damon accessed Affleck's Facebook account and hilariously replaced his profile picture with a doctored image of him with the Super Bowl champion.
With all of this camaraderie, it is hard to imagine the duo not spending Thanksgiving together. The fact that the childhood friends have their homes in the same Los Angeles neighbourhood makes it even more perplexing.
So, why did Damon not spend Thanksgiving with Affleck? Well, Damon could not include his pal in his plans because he had flown to Boston to be with his family during the holidays.
"I ended up going to Boston to be with my family," Damon told E! News. "It is not his fault he didn't spend Thanksgiving with me. It's my fault that I left. I was in another state."
Damon then joked about trying to avoid Affleck on Christmas, saying he wants to "not see him as much as possible".
"We may, in fact, be in the same area code during Christmas. I try to crash his parties whenever I can, highfalutin' affair," he added.
While Damon pokes fun at Affleck every time he gets the chance, he does know the importance of their friendship.
"He is an amazing guy... And I'm always happy when he's happy," Damon said.
Earlier this year, Affleck had also gushed about the friendship between the two.
"I can't tell you how valuable it is to have somebody who's been through things with you, ups and downs, who knows what your life experience is like, who can identify with that," Affleck had told Entertainment Tonight. "It's an incredibly valuable friendship and it's very precious, and so is my friendship with my brother. I don't know what I would do without those guys."
Meanwhile, Damon also opened up about his father's health and asked people to pray for the quick recovery of his dad, who is reportedly battling cancer. Damon's father Kent is 68 years old.
"It's been a slow unfolding, my dad's sick. So that's been a process we're going through," he said as quoted by Extra TV. "We'll take any prayers you got, so throw 'em up there."
