Chelsea succumbed to a 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium as a late Wigan equalizer denied the Londoners a fourth consecutive win in the Premier League on Saturday.

In what was a largely a sluggish game, Chelsea took the lead on 59 minutes when Ashley Cole's long ball into the box was expertly taken down by Daniel Sturridge before he lashed a shot into the far corner.

Andre Villas-Boas immediately rung the changes, opting to defend their advantage. However, with minutes remaining, a mistake by goalkeeper Petr Cech, when he spilled the ball, saw Jordi Gomez lash in for a deserved draw.

Chelsea now sit at third in the league, three points above fifth placed Arsenal having played a game more.
