Will Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart star in Twilight sequel? Studio teases possibility
The Twilight movies are based on the series of fictional novels authored by Stephenie Meyer.
The Twilight series has attracted many fans since the release of the first movie in 2008, which featured the fresh on-screen pairing of former real-life couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. However, after release of the last instalment of the franchise – The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (2013) – much has changed for the actors as no new vampire movie in the series has been released, since the two parted ways.
But if a latest report is to be believed, Pattinson is still interested in starring as the thousand-year-old Edward Cullen in the vampire saga. Nonetheless, one major hurdle in the making of a brand new Twilight movie (based on Stephenie Meyer's fictional novels) seems to be the lead actress Stewart, who is no longer interested in playing the fantasy character of Bella Swan.
"[Pattinson] is more likely to come back if they make more Twilight films because he thinks it would re-spark his career," a source told Hollywood Life shedding light on the possibility of him starring in a fresh Twilight movie. "Kristen [Stewart] wants to stay away from the franchise because she thinks of it as high school and she feels that she has graduated onto other opportunities that are more her right now," the source added.
While the actress is reportedly staying away from the fantasy saga, the studio is dropping major hints on the possibility of a Twilight-related movie. Speaking with Screen Daily, co-chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Patrick Wachsberger teased the possibility of seeing another episode of the film.
"It's a possibility," he said adding, "Not a certainty but it's a possibility. It's about Stephenie [Meyer]. If she wants to tell a story related to those characters we're here for her."
