Wiltshire pensioner arrested for manslaughter after Masterchef contestant found dead
Masterchef contestant Helen Barker was described as an 'accomplished cook'.
A 78-year-old man was arrested in connection with Helen Barker's death who was discovered dead at her Trowbridge home.
Police were called to reports of the 38-year-old chef's sudden death at 9.07am on Thursday (8 September). Officers arrested the pensioner on suspicion of manslaughter and actual bodily harm. It is understood that the man was known to Barker.
The post mortem was inconclusive according to police and more forensic tests will be needed in order to reach a conclusion on the cause of death.
The 78-year-old man was released on bail police continue their enquiries.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman told The Wiltshire Times: "Enquiries are ongoing at this stage and a thorough investigation is being carried out."
Barker's family paid tribute to her, saying: "The whole family have been left devastated by Helen's untimely death.
"She was much loved and will be greatly missed by us all.
"She was a bright young woman who, in addition to her attainment of a BSc degree in Dental Technology at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff, was a talented artist and an accomplished cook, having appeared on the Masterchef television programme.
"It will be difficult to come to terms with her loss, but this is being aided by the kind words and messages of support we have received and for which we are very grateful.
"We would like to kindly ask that the media allow us time to grieve in peace."
Police confirmed that they are carrying out house-to-house inquiries.
