Windows 10 preview build 10547 brings enhancements to Start, tablet mode, updated apps and more
Microsoft is seeding a new Windows 10 preview build for Insiders. As always, it is available for Fast ring users. This is the third such preview release after Microsoft made the first build 10525 available in mid-August, following the public release of the Windows 10 PC version. There are a few new features and improvements, apart from bug fixes upon updating to build 10547.
Insiders who want an additional column for the tiles groups on the Start menu, instead of three columns, can now enable it from Settings>> Personalistion>> Start and enable "Show more tiles". Besides, Microsoft now supports up to 2048 tiles on the Start.
You can snap apps to left and right, replace an app with another and swipe down to close apps - all these from Task View, provided you are in tablet mode. This release further brings update for a host of apps including Photos, Xbox app, Mail, Groove Music, Calendar and Maps. Head over to Windows Store to get the updated apps.
Another noteworthy change is the ability to turn off background images on the sign-in screen that can be done from Settings>> Peronalisation>> Lock screen and simply disable "Show Windows background pictures on the sign-in screen".
Build 10547 adds a preview of Object RTC in the Edge browser that enables real-time audio and video communication inside the Edge. Improvements have been made to the text input panel too, with additional punctuation support. It no longer opens automatically when the tablet mode is not enabled, or if you have a keyboard attached.
Microsoft claims to have resolved the error dialog with the Start menu. You now have the ability to shuffle backgrounds randomly, instead of the order in which they usually appear in the folder. Audio issues, especially the one affecting Realtek audio and devices, have also been addressed.
Insiders who are gamers will find topics related to gaming in the Windows Insiders forum, which is the best platform to get support for issues related to games. You can also have discussions with other gamers.
Microsoft is yet to fix the Windows Store apps issue that will not be updated automatically. You will have to manually fetch updates for apps by going to the Store, then click on your profile picture, choose "Download and updates" and check for updates. This is one among a bunch of issues which are yet to be fixed.
