Witcher 3 developer confirms Blood and Wine will be its final expansion before setting sights on Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the upcoming Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be the last piece of post-release content for the open-world RPG. In an interview with Eurogamer, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz said "this is the last thing we deliver", before the team shifts to Cyberpunk 2077.
However, he did maintain that the developer is not about to just finish up and walk away from Witcher 3 and added that they will continue to release patches to fix any bugs in the game and its expansions.
"The first thing is that we try to fix as many bugs as we can for the second expansion and the main game," he said, "...and we will release a patch before we release the expansion and maybe one later."
Since its release in May 2015, The Witcher 3 has received quite a bit of free and paid content along with the sprawling RPG. The previous expansion, Hearts of Stone, was launched in October 2015. The developer also released 16 pieces of free DLC for Witcher 3 in addition to the paid expansions.
"Blood and Wine makes The Witcher 3 complete — it's Geralt's final mission. Containing more than 90 new quests, and over thirty hours of brand new adventures, it's something that I think gamers will remember for a long time," Tomaszkiewicz said earlier in a press release.
"There's also a massive amount of features we're giving gamers with this expansion like a dynamic Point of Interest system, a new Gwent deck, new endgame mutation mechanics, and even a place Geralt can call home.... And it's all happening in a new region as big as No Man's Land in the base game."
After the RPG's final add-on is released, the developer will move on to Cyberpunk 2077, which the developer describes as a "multi-thread, non-linear story" that will be "set in the near future in which advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity".
The 30-hour Blood and Wine expansion is set to arrive on 31 May for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as part of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt season pass, or as a separate $20 download.
