Woman who botched illegal surgery leaving man's penis 'mutilated' sentenced to 40 months

A 39-year-old Florida woman was sentenced to 40 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges relating to two botched illegal surgeries that left a man with a "mutilated" penis. Nery Carvajal Gonzalez of Hialeah, Florida first met the man when he went to her for facials but then performed other illegal procedures on his buttocks and chin before the first penis surgery.

The man, in his 50s, was said to have suffered pain and "the inability to have an erection" after Gonzalez performed a penis enhancement procedure on him, according to the Miami Herald. The man then continued to get treatment from Gonzalez to fix the damaged organ.

A disgraced plastic surgeon was enlisted to help fix the man's penis and performed a second illegal surgery which left the man's genitals still damaged. Court papers said that the penis "had retracted in size" and "looked mutilated and was missing skin and was raw and swollen".

The second unlicensed surgeon, Mark Schreiber, reportedly told the man to keep his penis straight with two ice lolly sticks while it healed. The case is not the first of its kind, with the Miami Herald calling south Florida "a hub" for illegal cosmetic surgeries.

The botched surgeries took place in a warehouse in Hialeah between 2014 and 2015. In court, the prosecutor told of how damaging the incidents were for the victim: "This was the worst experience of his life."

Gonzalez was given 40 months in prison in a plea deal; Schreiber is awaiting trial.
