Wonder Woman: Nicole Kidman unlikely to star, House Of Cards' Robin Wright may feature
Back in November, it emerged that Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman was in talks for a role in the next big movie planned in the DC Cinematic Universe, Wonder Woman. According to numerous publications, the Paddington actress was "in ongoing negotiations to play a high-ranking Amazonian warrior alongside Gal Gadot" (who plays Wonder Woman/ Diana Prince).
Now, updates are suggesting that Kidman may not feature in the superhero movie after all, thanks to her busy schedule. Variety's Justin Kroll took to Twitter to reveal that the actress might be forced to opt out of the eagerly-anticipated project due to conflicting commitments and would find it difficult to carve out time to film what would likely be a time-consuming production.
The journalist began his roll-out of tweets by stating: "Here's a Twitter scoop for all you Wonder Woman folks..." before going on to write, "as you know Kidman's dates didn't work out so they are trying to figure out whether to just give Robin Wright that role or find another star."
It has previously been rumoured that House Of Cards star Wright could be replacing Kidman as Queen Of The Amazons - and mother of Wonder Woman - Hippolyta. However, Kroll mentioned in his updates that her role "isn't Hippolyta like others believed, it's actually another role."
Just a few minutes after he said that, the reporter backtracked a little and clarified: "In fact Wright's deal for her unknown role had closed before Kidman even had an offer, so we'll just have to see what ends up happening."
The past few months has offered up a lot of information when it comes to Wonder Woman's plot, even though the casting is still up in the air. Warner Bros have revealed that the Amazonian superhero will be facing Circe, a wicked sorceress who has a penchant for turning her adversaries into animals, and Greek god of war Ares, who will be conducting his evil behind the scenes.
The rumoured plot will start with Ares having stolen a powerful sword from the Amazons, in the hope it will turn him into an almighty god and let him take over Olympus. However, the sword's power is locked to Ares, and to wield it he will need to start a world war - with him employing Circe in the process to help.
Ares gains his abilities from "malevolent psychic energy" and a conflict of that scale will provide him with enough energy to access the sword's power. But, of course, Wonder Woman (aka Diana Prince) is not going to let that happen.
Whether or not Wonder Woman triumphs (we are pretty confident she will) remains unclear but according to rumours from Heroic Hollywood, by the end of the movie, the sword will have gone missing. She'll still be searching for it in upcoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which will be released first (on 25 March 2016) but will follow afterwards in terms of timeline.
