World's 50 Best Bars topped by New York but dominated by London

The World's 50 Best Bar awards have named New York's Dead Rabbit as 2016's number one, but London takes the prize as the city with the most seeded drinking establishments. Highest for London and the UK was The American Bar in the capital's Savoy hotel.

Along with nine London bars, Edinburgh's Bramble means the UK took a fifth of the places on the prestigious ranking. The top 10 is dominated by London and New York with the UK capital taking five of the top spots - the only other city in the top 10 is Athens, represented at number nine by The Clumsies.

There are 11 new entries on the list with London's The Gibson the highest newcomer at number six. Singapore's cocktail culture continues to grow with three entries on the list including newcomer Operation Dagger.

The list is chosen by an academy of 476 members from 57 different countries, and produced by leading drinks magazine, Drinks International. The awards took place in London's Spitalfields, with industry figures and celebrities in attendance.

The first place bar, New York's Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog, gives the Big Apple its first crown since 2011. Dead Rabbit first appeared on the list in 2013 and had spent the last two years hanging in second place.
