World's fastest tortoise 'races' to Guinness book victory
Bertie the tortoise was up to speed when he attempted to win the title of Fastest tortoise in the world. At his home in Adventure Valley, a family adventure park in Brasside, County Durham, Bertie "sprinted" on a specially designed race track in his enclosure, clocking a speed of 0.28m/s (0.92 ft/s).
With this breathtaking speed he smashed Charlie's (UK) previous record of 0.125 m/s which had been unchallenged since 1977. Since achieving his Guinness World Records title, Bertie has become a local celebrity at Adventure Valley.
