WWE Extreme Rules 2016 results: Roman Reigns retains World Heavyweight title; Seth Rollins returns
Roman Reigns and AJ Styles collided for the second time for the WWE World Heavyweight title at Extreme Rules 2016, which was held at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on 22 May. The two wrestlers previously clashed at Payback on 1 May, where Reigns retained his title for the first time since winning it from Triple H at Wrestle Mania 32.
Besides the Reigns vs Styles match (main card) and the fatal four-way Intercontinental Championship match, other fights were a little disappointing with matches either ending too early or lacking excitement. The show also saw the surprise return of former World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins after being sidelined for six months due to a knee injury.
Check out the results below:
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Extreme Rules Match
Roman Reigns retained his title by defeating AJ Styles via pinfall. Reigns got the three-count after he speared Styles. However, the current champion's victory celebrations were short-lived as Rollins made his return to deliver The Pedigree on his former Shield's team-mate.
Rollins did not lose his World Heavyweight belt in a fight but had to relinquish it after suffering a knee injury in November 2015.
Intercontinental Championship Match
The Miz, Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn had near falls and chances to win the match but the crafty The Miz retained his belt after he was able to pin Cesaro for the win.
