Xiaomi expected to launch new global smartphone on 23 April; Will that be Mi 5?

China-based Xiaomi, which is expected to release the highly anticipated high-end Mi 5 smartphone during the later part of 2015, could now launch the device as early as 23 April.

According to a GSMArena report, Xiaomi will hold an event in New Delhi, India on 23 April, and this event is highly expected to witness the unboxing of a new smartphone.

The GSMArena report quotes an official invite sent out by Xiaomi for the 23 April event, and gauging by the invite, it is evident that a new smartphone will be launched by the company.

Xiaomi's invite also hints at the purported smartphone being launched globally, apart from being launched and released in India.

Xiaomi's tagline on its invite (indicated in an official tweet above) reads "i IS COMING".

It makes sense for Xiaomi to launch Mi 5 during the 23 April event, as the design of the smartphone is said to be finalised according to an earlier report. The Chinese company is said to go through six prototype designs before actually developing any smartphone. This approach comes naturally to the company, as hinted by Xiaomi's own CEO Lei Jun.

Therefore, it is possible that the 'global smartphone' to be released at Xiaomi's 23 April event, could well be the high-ender Mi5.

However, Xiaomi has not yet come out with an official confirmation about the release of the Mi 5.
