Overview

Hosts Zimbabwe's struggles in international cricket continued as they were thrashed by Sri Lanka in the first match, losing by eight wickets on 14 November (Monday). Put into bat on a green pitch assisting the fast bowlers, the hosts struggled to come to terms with Sri Lanka's bowling attack, ending up with only 154 on the board.

The bowlers too struggled, with the opposition needing only 24.3 overs to chase the target. Only Peter Moor and skipper Graeme Cremer showed some fight for the hosts.

West Indies are full of confidence after beating Sri Lanka by 62 runs in their opening encounter of the Tri-Nation Series. This in fact was the West Indies first away win since the 2015 ICC World Cup and their first win against the Lankans at a neutral venue since 1999.

Shai Hope, Jonathan Carter, Rovman Powell, Shannon Gabriel, Ashley Nurse and skipper Jason Holder all made important contributions to help their country pull off a win against what in all fairness was a second string Sri Lanka side.

The team management will be hoping that Holder's men continue this form into the later stages of the tournament as West Indies need to start building for the 2017 Champions Trophy considering they have axed a number of senior players from the squad in the recent past.
