Adam Lallana says James Milner's snub to Manchester City for Liverpool proves player's ambition
Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has hailed the signing of James Milner claiming the midfielder's decision to leave Manchester City for Anfield is "a big statement" and proof of his ambition.
The Merseysiders announced the signing of the versatile midfielder as a free-agent last week after the England international decided against renewing his contract at the Etihad Stadium – and with Arsenal also reportedly interested in securing his services.
Having played with Milner a number of times in Roy Hodgson's squad, Lallana has hailed both the players for deciding to move to Anfield and the club for persuading him to make the move.
"It's a big statement that he chose to come to Liverpool, (it) shows he's got ambition. He could have easily stayed at City, but he chose us," Lallana said to Mirror.
"He's versatile. He won't kick up a fuss if he's asked to play in a different position. It's a team game and sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself for the team. For a player of his ability, to go on a free transfer, it doesn't happen very often. It's great Liverpool have persuaded him to come to us."
Lallana believes the former Aston Villa and Manchester City star has what it takes to be a vital player for Brendan Rodgers' squad and a role model after having won two Premier League during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
"James Milner is a fantastic player. He's played his whole career in different positions. He's won so many caps, won titles and trophies with Manchester City and it's great for Liverpool to sign someone like him.
"James is going to be a vital addition to the squad. He's a complete role model. He's got unbelievable ability and sometimes people don't appreciate that in the way they should. Left foot, right foot, got a goal in his locker and always fit. He's the perfect player."
