Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan Celebrate Aaradhaya's First Birthday [PHOTOS]

"It's a girl," tweeted overwhelmed Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan on 16 November last year, after his wife and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan gave birth to their first child.

"I AM DADA (Grandfather) to the cutest baby girl," wrote the baby's grandfather, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan.

Now, Aaradhya Bachchan, the daughter of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan is a year old and... cue the celebrations.

"Thank you all for your kind and generous wishes for Aaradhya, on her first birthday ... i shall tell her about it and knowing how this generation can keep records, this missive shall also be available to her when she is big enough to read ! My love and wishes to all," Amitabh Bachchan posted on his Facebook page.

"All your wishes for Aaradhya's birthday, her first, and therefore full of special effects and wishes. Thank you so much for it," the legendary actor wrote in his blog.

Aaradhya's Birthday Celebrations

Although Aaradhya's mother, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, said she wanted a private birthday celebration with only the family, the couple actually kick-started their daughter's birthday by contributing time and money for a social cause. Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan attended a Children's Day (14 November; a national holiday in India meant to mark the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru) party with an NGO - Magic Bus - in Mumbai, where they made donations in their daughter's name.

"Abhishek and Aishwarya give presence to 'Magic Bus' today, an organisation that looks and assists into the lives of under privileged children, mostly from slum areas. They donate in the name of Aaradhya to look after 4 children, their needs and vocation and education," Amitabh Bachchan wrote on Facebook.

Amitabh's Love for "Little One"

Amitabh Bachchan has often referred to his granddaughter as the "little one", on social media. The 70 year old actor's close relationship with his granddaughter Aaradhya is quite tangible in his blogs, tweets and Facebook posts.

"Living in the innocence and glory of the little one .. such a joy to hear her learn new words and see her fast developing expressions ... mature and confident .. ! kids of this generation .. start early .. god bless them .. !!" he posted on Facebook earlier this month.

"Sharing the entire day with the 'little one' and marvelling at her capacity to learn and demonstrate what has been once asked of her. This generation is another generation altogether in its brilliance, and it is only correct and apt to accept and acknowledge them. We are dwarfed and must step back for them to take over," the actor noted.

Born to Bollywood's "first couple" (called Abhi-Ash in local media), Aaradhya is arguably the most popular star child in India. So much so that after she was born, while her family kept her name secret for some time, she was nicknamed "Beti B"; a similar tag to "Big B", which was given to Amitabh Bachchan.

Aaradhya Bachchan was kept away from the media until she was glimpsed at an airport in France, along with her mother, a former Miss World, who was returning after attending the 65th Cannes Film Festival in May. Aaradhya has been snapped quite often since then - at the Mumbai airport, on Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday celebrations, and most recently on the occasion of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's 39th birthday.
