Ariana Grande sued by EDM musician Alex Greggs over David Guetta collab One Last Time
Songstress is latest musician to be taken to court since landmark Blurred Lines lawsuit.
Ariana Grande has joined a growing list of celebs being sued for copyright infringement. The 23-year-old is being accused of ripping off an EDM tune for her David Guetta collaboration, One Last Time.
In legal documents obtained by TMZ, songwriter Alex Greggs says he holds the copyright on the 2012 tune, Takes All Night, which he wrote for Skye Stevens.
He claims that Grande took memorable parts of his song and used it for her chorus.
Greggs is said to be seeking a cut of the profits from the hit song, which peaked at number 13 following its release in February 2015.
The track, which was written by David Guetta, Savan Kotecha, Giorgio Tuinfort, Rami Yacoub and Carl Falk, also earned her a Teen Choice Award for Choice Single that same year.
Greggs has written music for the like of Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Janet and the late Michael Jackson.
News of the lawsuit emerged just hours after it was revealed that Demi Lovato is facing legal action from indie band Sleigh Bells for her song Stars, which is a bonus track on her 2015 album, Confident.
The Brooklyn-based band, made up of Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller, previously addressed the alleged similarities in a tweet dating back to November 2015. "@ddlovato Demi Lovato flattered you guys sampled Infinity Guitars & Riot Rhythm for Stars: but we were not contacted. Gotta clear those."
In 2015, a federal court awarded Marvin Gaye's estate and his three children nearly $7.4m (£4.9m) in damages after ruling that the producer and Robin Thicke had plagiarised the late soul singer's chart-topping Got To Give It Up. Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran is currently at the centre of two copyright cases, over the songs Photograph and Thinking Out Loud from his second studio album, X.
