Arsenal's Alex Iwobi out for a month with hip injury
This is the second casualty the Gunners have faced over the past week.
Arsenal have received a massive blow in the form of Alex Iwobi. The winger has been ruled out for a month with a hip injury that he picked up against Liverpool in their opening day loss at the Emirates. This is the second casualty the Gunners have faced over the past week, with Aaron Ramsey also ruled out for the rest of the month with a hamstring problem.
The Gunners were comprehensively beaten 4-3 by the Reds on the opening day, with Philippe Coutinho running riot at the Emirates, despite Arsenal taking the lead in the first half through Theo Walcott, who also missed a penalty. The second half saw Liverpool take a 4-1 lead, but Arsenal staged a comeback of sorts by scoring two quick-fire goals to give themselves some hope of scoring an equaliser.
Both Iwobi and Ramsey are expected to miss their games against Leicester City and Watford before returning to contention against Southampton on 10 September. The north London club are already short at the back with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel both out for a length of time with injuries while Laurent Koscielny is still recovering from his travails in the Euros.
Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are the other two players training to get back into the first team, as Arsene Wenger looks to ease his Euro 2016 stars into the first team. Meanwhile, Danny Welbeck is also out for the rest of the year with a knee injury, taking the Gunners' injury haul to five.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are still struggling to make ends meet in the transfer market with no new transfers made since their loss to Liverpool, less than two weeks left in the market. Rob Holding and Granit Xhaka made their debuts against Liverpool.
Arsenal are in the market to sign a striker and a defender and have been linked with move for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi. They are also plotting a move for Southampton centre-back Jose Fonte, with Manchester United also interested in his services.
