Bella Hadid and The Weeknd break up: Here's why the pair split after dating for 18 months
The pair made their first red carpet debut as a couple at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
Bella Hadid and The Weeknd have reportedly parted ways yet again. The Starboy singer (real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) and the model had reconciled after splitting up in December 2015.
According to People magazine, the 25-year-old singer and the model are moving on because of their hectic schedules.
"Their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album," a source told the celebrity news website. "They still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends."
The pair, who overall dated for almost two-and-a-half years, were first romantically linked in April 2015. During an interview with Rolling Stone in October that year, the Canadian singer had opened up about his romance with Hadid and said that he initially just wanted to work with the model.
"I actually asked her to be on the artwork for Beauty Behind the Madness [The Weeknd's chart-topping studio album]. My motive was literally to work with her," he said, adding that when she declined, "I was like, 'All right, cool – we can meet up face-to-face'."
"It just kind of fell into my lap. If this had happened two years ago – well, she couldn't [Hadid was 16 years old]. But if I'd met someone two years ago, I probably would've f****d it up. But I'm more – how do I say it? – clear-thinking now," he added.
The two had confirmed their relationship when they made their first red carpet debut as a couple at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
