Oscars 2012: Eddie Murphy Quits, Billy Crystal Takes Over
With the resignation of Eddie Murphy as the host of Oscars 2012, the Academy Awards hosts have been hunting for an apt choice to replace him. Hollywood producer Brian Gazer has found a replacement in Billy Crystal.
Crystal will be hosting the Academy awards for the ninth time, but the first since 2004.
"Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up prescriptions. Looking forward to the show," Billy tweeted.
"With Billy, we're moving forward with one of the greatest hosts in Oscar history. His return to the Oscars is, in a sense, a celebration." producer Don Mischer was quoted as saying by SkyNews.
Billy hosted the Oscars first in 1990 in front of 40 million viewers.
According to the Oscars statistics, only Bobe Hope has hosted more awards than Billy Crystal. The Academy Awards 2012 will take place on Sunday, February 26.
