Cannes Film Festival 2013: Red Carpet Fashion Accessories on Opening Day [PHOTOS]

The 66th edition of the Cannes Film Festival started on 15 May, with the premiere of director Baz Luhrmann's 3D version of F Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. The opening ceremony of the event saw actors and actresses walking down the red carpet, displaying some of the best fashion from around the world.

The list of celebrities who attended the first day of the annual event includes French actress Audrey Tautou, who is the host for Cannes 2013; the full cast of The Great Gatsby, including the director, Leonardo DiCaprio and Amitabh Bachchan; and Palme d'Or jury president Steven Spielberg.

Australian actress Nicole Kidman, a member of the jury for this year, stole the show with a white strapless, floral-embroidered Christian Dior frock and a glamorous hairstyle.

The Cannes Film Festival 2013 also marks the 100th anniversary of Indian cinema and Bollywood's most fashionable stars were on the red carpet. Sonam Kapoor's over-sized nose ring was a particular highlight in the accessories department. Unfortunately for the 27-year-old star, her style statement received mixed reviews from fashion gurus across the world.

Some say Sonam Kapoor sported a far more elegant wardrobe at Cannes last year, when, for example, she wore a black and white floor-length gown from the Naeem Khan Fall 2012 collection. However, the argument for her defence points out the actress was only keeping with Bollywood's theme at Cannes 2013.

Ines de la Fressange, a French fashion designer and a former model, was also the target of red carpet attending, after sporting an extraordinary snake-shaped diamond studded bracelet and clutch.

The Cannes Film Festival concludes on 26 May.
