Chelsea-Barca Tussle Continues Over €10m Spaniard
Oriol Romeu is planning on staying at Chelsea for another year at least
Oriol Romeu's agent has hinted that Barcelona are interested in the starlet for a possible summer move, but he has insisted that the defensive midfielder is happy at Chelsea, for now at least.
Romeu has made 15 appearances for the Blues since leaving Barcelona for the west London club in the summer, and while the Catalan giants have first refusal if Andre Villas-Boas wants to sell the 20 year old, Villas-Boas would have to be willing to sell first and foremost.
And as Romeu builds up his game time for Chelsea, his agent Javier Magico Diaz believes that €10 million rated youngster will stay at Stamford Bridge to continue developing his skills.
"Will Romeu return? His dream before leaving was to be a Barcelona player and that still stands, but we cannot ignore the opportunity Chelsea have provided," Diaz told Marca.
"Oriol has made a name for himself in the Premier League and is playing regularly. We're committed to the club and we cannot leave them hanging."
Romeu will no doubt continue to be linked to a possible return to Barcelona, with the Spain Under 21 international being quite open about his love for the Champions League trophy holders.
But Diaz believes that Romeu will stay at Chelsea for the next year or two at least, as he continues to be given opportunities to play by Villas-Boas.
"We'll have to see if it's appropriate for the club and the player," he explained when asked about the Barcelona rumours.
"We need to know if he'll keep developing at Chelsea and playing. Maybe it will be more convenient to stay for another year and then return in 2013."
Chelsea are set for a very busy January, with the club already admitting that a deal is close for Bolton defender Gary Cahill. While Luka Modric is still being linked to the Blues, Villas-Boas has insisted that the club will not be moving for the playmaker in the next window. Modric also dismissed speculation of requesting to leave Tottenham today, saying he is happy at White Hart Lane and aiming to get the club back into the Champions League.
