Deepika Padukone surpasses Priyanka Chopra to become world's 10th highest-paid actress

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is the 10 highest-paid actresses in the world, says the latest rich list released by Forbes. She has become the only Indian to achieve the feat.

Jennifer Lawrence remained the highest earning actress in the world for the second consecutive year with $46m (£35m) a year, according to the list.

Padukone's annual earning stood at $10m. Her entry into the top-earning list came as a surprise as her Indian fans were rooting for Priyanka Chopra to make it to the list. However, Chopra failed to achieve the feat despite having a popular TV series (Quantico) and a major Hollywood movie Baywatch in her kitty.

Deepika is soon going to debut in Hollywood with Vin Diesel's major franchise XxX: Return Of The Xander Cage. According to the Forbes report, the 30-year-old Indian actress has "scored box office gold" with films like Bajirao Mastani and Piku.

Padukone started her Indian-movie career in 2007 with a major hit – Om Shanti Om – opposite the Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

The actress is the daughter of Indian badminton legend Prakash Podukone and has delivered multiple box-office blockbusters including, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.

Madeline Berg, from Forbes, welcomed the Indian actress to the elite list and in response to her, Padukone tweeted a 'Namaste' emoji.

The actress is looking forward to made it big in the American movie world with her upcoming project Xander Cage.
