E3 2015: Square Enix finally answer fans prayers and announce Final Fantasy 7 remake
Square Enix has finally answered the prayers of its fans and announced a full remake of classic PlayStation RPG Final Fantasy 7.
You can watch the announcement trailer which aired during Sony's E3 press conference below...
The trailer featuring a montage of Midgar and its inhabitants ended with a shot of protagonist Cloud Strife complete with buster sword strapped to his back as the first few bars of its famed opening theme played.
First released way back in 1997 on the original Playstation, Final Fantasy 7 quickly popularised console RPGs. Up until then the Final Fantasy series was exclusive to Nintendo consoles but Square switched allegiances when their ambitions grew.
Coming on 4 discs, Final Fantasy 7 was one of the first console epics and sparked an explosion in popularity for role playing games. Though its CG at the time was state of the art, it's now several generations behind and looks its age.
Since its release, there has been a number of spin offs and a movie sequel but what fans have been crying out for is a full remake to bring it into the 21st century. Denied for years as the costs were too prohibitive, Square Enix have now finally relented. Dreams can come true!
Released on Playstation 4 first, it's expected to be released for Xbox One and PC soon after.
