Eddie Nketiah, Ben Sheaf and Matt Macey agree Arsenal contract extensions
Nketiah, Macey and Sheaf all made their first-team debut this season.
Arsenal trio Eddie Nketiah, Matt Macey and Ben Sheaf have all agreed new deals with the club after making their first-team debut this season.
The club confirmed this via a statement on the official site: "Young professionals Eddie Nketiah, Matt Macey and Ben Sheaf have all signed new contracts with the club."
Arsene Wenger has used a number of youth-team players in the Europa League and Carabao Cup and is likely to do so again when Arsenal take on BATE Borisov in their final Europa League group game on Thursday (7 December).
Among the three, Nketiah has made the most number of appearances for the first-team this campaign. The 18-year-old has featured in three games in the second-tier European club competition, and has made one appearance in the EFL Cup.
The England Under-19 international's 35-minute run out in the latter was the most impressive as he came on as a late second-half substitute and scored both goals to help the Gunners come from behind and seal the tie 2-1 after extra time. Wenger was full of praise for the young striker and promised further chances during the course of the campaign.
Macey, who joined the club from Bristol Rovers in 2013, has firmly established himself as the club's third choice goalkeeper and got his opportunity when David Ospina – the second choice – suffered an injury earlier in the campaign. He started the game against Red Star Belgrade and Norwich City and remains undefeated in his two games with the first-team.
Sheaf, on the other hand, has made just a solitary appearance for the senior team and it came during Arsenal's away win in Belgrade. He played the final minute of the game, but is highly regarded among the Arsenal coaches. The 19-year-old, who arrived from the West Ham United academy in 2014, is certain to get more chances in the cup competitions.
The trio have now joined fellow youth-team player Joe Willock, who has also impressed with the first-team this campaign; he agreed new terms with the club earlier in the campaign.
