Ellen DeGeneres: Oscar host responds to reports of split with Portia de Rossi
American talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres has slammed reports that she and her wife Portia de Rossi are heading for divorce. The 57-year-old Oscar host talked about the break-up rumours on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show.
"We don't know anything about it until somebody tells us," she said, according to Entertainment Tonight. "I don't read the tabloids, and I don't have a publicist."
"I don't know why they do this," DeGeneres added. "We're kind of flattered. We really don't almost break up, we don't fight, we're madly in love, and I guess it's boring."
DeGeneres married the Australian-American actress on 16 August 2008. There have been several reports since 2013 that the couple's marriage was on the rocks. However, the Scandal star keeps sharing pictures of her and DeGeneres on Instagram, showing glimpses of their happy and content life.
In 2013, the Arrested Development actress talked about her happiness after coming out as a lesbian and marrying DeGeneres in the April issue of Out magazine. "I really, honestly think that anybody who is openly gay and visible is powerful. It doesn't matter what you do, you are impacting people," she said at that time.
"We've settled into happily married life. We really support each other in whatever we're doing and we're incredibly happy, which is why you don't see us in the press so much. There's no drama to report. There comes some pressure in your mid-30s, and you think, Am I going to have kids so I don't miss out on something that other people really seem to love? Or is it that I really genuinely want to do this with my whole heart? I didn't feel that my response was 'yes' to the latter."
"You have to really want to have kids, and neither of us did. So it's just going to be me and Ellen and no babies — but we're the best of friends and married life is blissful, it really is. I've never been happier than I am right now," the Better Off Ted star added.
