Overview
The 2012/13 Europa League is the only competition in which English teams are representing at the European stage after the Premier League leaders Manchester United and the north London club Arsenal failed to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season.
The European champions Chelsea are one of the firm favourites to win this season's Europa League after the west London club made history for the wrong reasons, as they failed to progress to the knock-out round of the Champions League. Andre Villas-Boas could give a tough time for his former club in winning the continents' second-tier competition as Spurs are also in the race to win the tournament.
Aside from the Premier League clubs, other big clubs who are in contention to win the Europa League are Russian club FC Rubin Kazan, Italian club S.S Lazio and Portuguese club S.L Benfica.
