Family man or Olympic gold? Usain Bolt's mother says world's fastest man has promised to settle down
Bolt, 29, stormed to a third gold medal in the 100m final on a historic night for the Jamaican.
On 15 May, Olympic champion Usain Bolt reaffirmed his status as the fastest man on the planet after taking home his third consecutive gold medal in the 100m. However, as he continues to garner praise from across the globe, his mother as made it clear all she is really interested in is him starting family.
Speaking to CNN's Don Riddell before her son finished the 100m event with a time of 9.81, Jennifer Bolt revealed that she was hoping to become a grandmother – sooner rather than later. "I would hope he'll settle down, get married and start his family," she said. "I know he'll settle down because he has said it. He told me many times that he's going to start his family."
Back in July, the record-breaking athlete was singing a different tune, telling the Telegraph that he planned to continue having fun after the Olympics end. He said: "It's hard for you to stay with one woman because girls are literally just throwing themselves at you. You get famous, there's so much pressure of girls wanting you."
He added that despite the fact he has a girlfriend he has been dating for two years, he refused to buckle under pressure to marry and wind up unhappy. He insisted that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's decision to marry his high school sweetheart in 2008 when he was 21 years old was a poor one because he hadn't lived.
"I've thought about it, but I know I'm not going to get married before 35, for sure," he said."Like, Rooney got married so young – all the footballers that are English, as soon as they get really famous they have to get married. And I think it's unfair to them."
Following his latest win Bolt has now seven gold medals at the Olympics. The Jamaican sprinter will be hoping to end his Olympic stint with unprecedented 'treble' by defending his other titles in Brazil.
