Goldberg returns to WWE after 12 years, accepts Brock Lesnar's rematch challenge
The two superstars last fought at WrestleMaina 20 in 2004.
Former WCW and WWE world heavyweight champion Bill Goldberg returned to WWE after a gap of 12 years on Monday Night Raw on 17 October and accepted Brock Lesnar's challenge to a fight.
As the 49-year-old wrestler stepped into the ring, fans at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado started chanting his name.
"I thought to myself, maybe I have one last ass-kicking in me ... maybe I have one last Spear in me ... maybe I have one last devastating Jackhammer in me," Goldberg said. "So, Brock Lesnar, not only does that mean that you're next, but most importantly, it means, Brock Lesnar, you're last!"
In the previous episode of Raw, the Beast Incarnate's advocate Paul Heyman had challenged Goldberg on behalf of the 39-year-old wrestler for a rematch. The two superstars last fought in 2004 at WrestleMaina 20, which Goldberg won.
"Goldberg: You sir, are hereby challenged to a fight. One-on-one. Beast versus The Myth. Icon versus icon. Anywhere, any place, any time. Brock Lesnar versus Goldberg!" Heyman had said, adding, "In Suplex City, you're not Goldberg. You're 'Next!'"
Goldberg said that he would respond to Lesnar's challenge at Denver.
"Booking my flight to answer that big mouth [Paul Heyman]'s challenge next week in person on #MondayNightRaw #WhosNext?" Goldberg wrote on Twitter after he was challenged.
According to reports, Lesnar is set to make an appearance at the upcoming episode of Raw to respond to Goldberg and is likely set a fight date. With the two wrestlers gearing to go at each other, fans have been speculating that the big fight might take place at the Raw exclusive pay-per-view Hell in a Cell 2016, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 33.
