Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic not David de Gea replacement at Manchester United
Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic is not being considered as a replacement for David de Gea, according to the Slovenian's agent.
De Gea remains closely linked with a move to Real Madrid with the latest claims from Spain suggesting the ex-Atletico Madrid star will the inform the club of his decision to leave this week.
While Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Chelsea's Petr Cech are also being considered, reports have suggested Inter's Handanovic features on a list of possible replacements being considered by Louis van Gaal.
Handanovic, 30, has just one more year left on his current contract at the San Siro but his representative insists talks over a new deal are going well.
"There are only rumours and media speculation," the goalkeeper's agent Federico Pastorello told FCInterNews.
"Nothing is true with regard to the Red Devils. I have never talked to them. I can rule out then, Samir going to Old Trafford, though of course the transfer market is unpredictable. Obviously interest from other clubs gives us pleasure, but Samir wants to win with Inter. Negotiations continue, and the final okay is close. Maybe a 90% chance is a little high, but the chances are very high."
As is the case with Lloris and Tottenham, reports had suggested Inter's failure to quality for the Champions League could be used in United's favour if they were to pursue a move for Handanovic.
And while he admits his client is desperate to play in the competition, he insists he will wait to do so with Inter.
"Of course, everyone wants to play in the Champions League, that is normal. Samir wants to achieve that goal with Inter though, even if the last few seasons have not been particular happy. If Samir reaches the agreement, he could end his career at Inter."
While Victor Valdes remains on the United books, another goalkeeper will be brought in during the summer transfer window in the likely event of De Gea returning to Madrid.
