Red Nose Day 2013: The Voice Judge Jessie J Shaves Head for Comic Relief and Raises £500,000 [VIDEO]
Jessie J has raised more than £500,000 for charity. The Voice judge shaved her head bald as part of Red Nose Day celebrations for Comic Relief UK. And she did it live, on television!
"I did it! Thank you to everyone who is donating! Please keep texting YES to 70010 x #headshave #comicrelief," she tweeted, adding, "I am soooo thankful to everyone who has donated @rednoseday and supported me tonight! My heart is filled with happiness! Lets make a change! X"
Before shaving her trademark locks, the 24-year-old singer met with those who had been helped by the organisation, including victims of sex trafficking and people living with HIV.
"I feel exhilarated to be able to have the opportunity to raise money for people that aren't fortunate enough to say something and be heard," she told host Dermot O'Leary, displaying her bald head, "Having visited some Comic Relief projects I can't even begin to explain all the things I've seen, to make people understand how important it is to raise money."
"I know Red Nose Day is one night but this is every day, every week, every month, every year these people are going through really tough times and they need us to never stop helping," she added, "So I wanted to do something that wasn't just for today and wasn't just for five minutes, it's going to last a few months. It will remind me and hopefully others that every day you should do something good if you can."
Other celebrities who participated in the charity included One Direction, Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson and Simon Cowell.
This year is the 25th anniversary of the charity and the live events on BBC 1 have raised a record £75m.
