Kim Kardashian-West woken up by string orchestra in extravagant Mother's Day surprise

Kanye West has been celebrating Mother's Day with his wife Kim Kardashian–West and, typical of the singer, it was an overblown, excessive display. Not known to do anything by halves, the rapper demonstrated his gratitude to his wife, with whom he has two children, by letting her wake up to her own private orchestra.

The 35-year-old mother of two was surprised with violinists and cello players, looking ethereally dressed all in white whilst playing a medley of her favourite tunes in a private concert, held in the living room of her Bel Air home.

She shared a series of Snapchats of the magical moment, writing: "Mother's Day surprise in my living room!"

A sleepy-eyed Kim watched the dream-like scene with daughter North from the landing outside their rooms. The 10-piece orchestra performed Tomorrow, from the film Annie, and smash hit Let It Go from Disney's Frozen. Kanye also presented Kim with a bench adorned with pink flowers.

The couple welcomed their second child, baby boy Saint, in December after Kim had faced earlier problems conceiving.

The reality TV star shared her thoughts on motherhood as she celebrated the "moms in my life," posting a picture of herself on her paid-for website KimKardashianWest.com alongside her mother, Kris Jenner, grandmother Mary-Jo and baby North.

"As a daughter, granddaughter, sister and a mother of two myself, I consider all the moms in my life to be the strongest women I know,' she wrote, alongside the picture capturing four generations of Kardashians.

"'It's so important to remember the women who brought us into the world and everything they do for us. Happy Mother's Day, everyone!!!"

Sister Khloe also paid tribute to her grandmother, mother and her sisters Kim and Kourtney, both of whom have embraced their roles as mothers. "Kris Jenner, I am so lucky that you're my mom,' she wrote. 'You are such an inspiration. You've gone through so much—you've pushed six kids out!!!—and are still the most kind, caring, generous and intelligent woman I know. Love you!!!

"MJ, you inspire me everyday with your elegance! Kimberly and Kourtney, you guys are such incredible mothers and I feel so lucky to be an auntie to your kids. I hope you both have the best Mother's Day!"
