Overview

Two teams at the opposite ends of the spectrum — Kolkata Knight Riders and Rising Pune Supergiants — face each other in match 45 of IPL 2016 on 14 May (Saturday). The hosts come into this game on the back of a five-wicket loss to Gujarat Lions in their last game.

Despite the loss, Kolkata will be confident against Pune because their players have performed on a consistent basis. The batting has looked good with all their important players striking form at the right time while the bowlers led by West Indian Andre Russell have chipped in with wickets at important times.

Since they are playing at home, Kolkata would prefer to stick with their three-spinner theory and no changes are expected in their playing XI, which means Sunil Narine will miss out once again.

Languishing at seventh place in the points table, Pune have had a disastrous time so far winning just three out of the 11 games played. Such is their lack of confidence that they lost in their last game, despite keeping the opposition to 137.

Adam Zampa's six wickets for 19 was the lone bright spot for the Supergiants against Hyderabad. This was the second best figures by a bowler in IPL history. The team management will need the other players, especially the foreign stars, to step up if they are to win a game as we go further into the tournament.
